Brutalist se odvija tijekom godina nakon Drugog svjetskog rata i prati židovskog arhitekta mađarskog podrijetla Lászlóa Tótha koji je preživio holokaust, te emigrira u Sjevernu Ameriku sa svojom ženom. Bogati i misteriozni klijent Lászlóu ponudi priliku života radeći na projektu koji bi obojicu upisao u vječnost zemlje koju sada László i njegova žena zovu domom. Od bogatog dobrotvora on osjeti okus američkog sna, ali taj uspjeh može imati cijenu koja je preteška da bi se mogla podnijeti.
